Self Reflection Ritual

October, lends itself to pagan and nature-inspired celebrations of the harvest, the border between dark and light, the remembrance of the dead and the start of a new cycle. In the 19th century, many believed that Samhain was the boundary between realms, living and dead.

So this October we bring you a beautiful practice focusing on self-reflection, because… as above, so below.

A regular practice of self-reflection is known to increase gratitude for the lives we embody. Becoming connected with ourselves and the world around us, as well as the relationship between ourselves and the natural world.

This helps you to process what needs to be worked on, and why you may behave a certain way, or react to certain situations. Because so many of our habits are habitual, quite often we don’t even realise how particular patterns affect our overall lives. We believe that living ritually, and not habitually helps the natural rhythms of life, so let’s dive deep into this months ritual!

 
 

What you’ll need to set up your space

  • A mug of ceremonial-grade Ritual Cacao – there’s a short video on how to prepare it here.

  • A comfy cushion on the floor or chair

  • A large(ish) mirror, big enough to sit in front of and see your whole face

  • A timer

  • Your journal or notepad to record anything that comes up


When to do it

This ritual can be done whenever you feel called, day or night, but whenever you do it, it’s important to find some quite time, when you can be alone, this ritual requires a calm mind.

If you want to get spooky then sit before a mirror at midnight on Samhain 2022, which in the Northern Hemisphere will begin on the evening of Monday, 31 October


What to do

  • Set up your sacred ceremonial space by lighting some candles, burning some incense or essential oils and taking some time to connect to your breath and body

  • When you feel calm and centred, slowly drink your cacao breathing in the chocolatey aromas, while remaining in the present moment

  • Close your eyes and do a simple visualisation meditation, imagining and picturing everything you wish to finish up and/or call in for yourself and let yourself feel gratitude for this year’s journey so far

  • Now picture a glowing orange light bubble surrounding you and locking in all the things you wish to call in and manifest. Picture a bubble of glowing gratitude, surrounding your whole body glowing gold and orange

  • When you are ready open your eyes, stay with moment and finish off any remaining Cacao

  • Now facing the mirror, look into your eyes and don’t look away, do this for a minimum of 5 minutes (It is important to try and not break the gaze for a minimum of 5 minutes, so nows the time to set the timer if you wish to

  • YEAH, WOAH! Right?!? Now journal what came up for you

  • Spend some time here really reflecting on the positives of the year so far, and what you truly value in life

  • Take as little or long for this ritual, you may require 20 mins or two hours, either way feel out how much time you need to give to yourself
